Flipper Zero Firmware Shifts to Community-Driven Development Model
Flipper Devices confirms that official firmware development for the Flipper Zero continues, but with a significantly reduced internal team and greater reliance on community contributions. The company shifts its focus toward building new hardware products, including the Flipper One open Linux platform and the newly launched Busy Bar, a device designed to help people with ADHD reduce distractions. The Busy Bar goes on open sale July 14 in the U.S., U.K., Europe, and Canada.
The Flipper Zero firmware reaches maturity with version 1.4.3, the latest stable release available since December 2025. Flipper Devices considers the firmware feature-complete, with a stable SDK, reliable APIs, and all originally promised features fully implemented. Recent comments from the team give the impression that development has stopped entirely, sparking significant backlash from the user base. In response, the company outlines a new community-driven approach to keep the project alive.
Under the new model, feature requests are evaluated weekly through GitHub Discussions, where users vote on proposals. Community pull requests are accepted but face stricter review requirements, including mandatory integration and regression testing. The development team maintains oversight and pays particular attention to AI-generated code that touches low-level functions, as well as changes affecting the user interface. With over one million Flipper Zero users, the company says its small team cannot manage the volume of communication without this structured community framework.
