Former Apple and Google Chip Designers Launch Nuvia With $53 Million
A new Santa Clara-based startup called Nuvia raises $53 million in Series A funding to tackle the growing demand for data center processing power. The company is founded by three former star chip designers from Apple and Google.
Silicon emerges as a hot investment area for venture capitalists as data centers demand more processing power. Nuvia, a new Santa Clara-based startup, raises $53 million in a Series A round co-led by Capricorn Investment Group, Dell Technologies Capital, Mayfield, and WRVI Capital. The company grows rapidly and currently employs roughly 60 people with plans to reach 100 employees by the end of the year.
The founders of Nuvia bring impressive credentials to the table, including John Bruno, Manu Gulati, and CEO Gerard Williams III. The trio overlaps at Apple where they lead the development of the A-series chips that power the iPhone and iPad. Together, they boast experience working on 20 chips and hold over 100 patents across their careers.
Nuvia enters the market at a critical time when the explosion of data and complex machine learning algorithms outpaces the available computation power. As Moore's Law slows and traditional companies like Intel hit the limits of physics, new entrants find an open opportunity to innovate. Nuvia aims to provide new approaches to meet these modern semiconductor challenges.
