German HR Startup Personio Reaches $1.7 Billion Valuation After $125M Raise
Personio secures $125 million in Series D funding to expand its all-in-one HR platform for small and medium-sized businesses across Europe. The funding round elevates the company to unicorn status after it doubles its revenue over the past year.
Personio, a German startup that provides an all-in-one HR platform for small and medium-sized businesses, raises $125 million in a Series D funding round. The investment, co-led by Index Ventures and Meritech, values the company at $1.7 billion. This significant valuation jump from $500 million just a year ago highlights the growing demand for modern HR tools in the midmarket segment.
The company targets organizations with 10 to 2,000 employees and offers a comprehensive suite of tools that cover recruiting, onboarding, payroll, and absence tracking. Personio operates similarly to Workday but specifically tailors its software for much smaller businesses. Currently, the startup serves around 3,000 SME customers in Europe and doubles its revenue over the past year without actively seeking new capital.
Personio plans to use the new funding to enhance its product features and expand its footprint across Europe. The shift in work dynamics drives SME leaders to recognize that HR is a critical business function rather than a secondary concern. By replacing outdated methods like Excel spreadsheets and pen-and-paper processes, Personio helps these traditional companies digitize their employee management efficiently.
