Getty Images announces a lawsuit against Stability AI, the company behind the popular AI art generator Stable Diffusion. The stock image giant accuses the tech startup of committing copyright infringement by copying and processing millions of its protected images without permission or compensation.
According to a press release from Getty, Stability AI ignores viable licensing options and long-standing legal protections in order to pursue its own commercial interests. Getty states that it actively supports artificial intelligence as a creative tool and already provides proper licenses to other technology innovators who want to train AI systems respectfully.
London-based Stability AI raises $101 million in funding for its open-source AI technology in October and releases version 2.1 of its Stable Diffusion tool in December. Getty declines to comment further on the specific details of the ongoing legal dispute.
