The complaint, filed in a Delaware court, claims Stability AI copies more than 12 million photographs directly from Getty's extensive collection without permission or compensation.
The stock image giant alleges that Stability AI uses these stolen photos, along with their associated captions and metadata, to train its popular AI image generator known as Stable Diffusion. According to the lawsuit, this unauthorized scraping serves as the foundation for Stability AI to build a competing business through its revenue-generating interface called DreamStudio.
