Google expands its Bard AI chatbot to include software development capabilities, allowing the tool to generate, debug, and explain code. This update responds to high user demand and supports more than 20 programming languages, including C++, Go, Java, JavaScript, Python, and TypeScript. Additionally, users can directly export Python code to Google Colab and get assistance with writing functions for Google Sheets.

The new features enable Bard to review source code line by line and help developers fix errors when prompted. The AI chatbot also translates code between different programming languages and breaks down complex code snippets to assist beginners. These additions bring Bard closer to feature parity with rival AI models like ChatGPT and Claude.

Despite these advancements, Google cautions that Bard remains an early experiment that sometimes presents inaccurate or misleading information with confidence. The chatbot occasionally provides incomplete code or outputs that fail to meet expectations. Google asserts that Bard cites existing open-source projects when quoting extensively, but developers still need to verify the AI-generated code carefully.
