Google admits that its Nest Secure home security system contains a hidden microphone that the company forgets to list in the device's technical specifications. The omission comes to light when Google informs customers that they can now use the alarm system to access Google Assistant for tasks like checking the weather.
The Nest team states that the on-device microphone is never intended to be a secret and calls the missing specification an error on their part. Google insists that the microphone remains off by default and only activates when users specifically enable the option, noting that the hardware is originally installed to support future features like broken glass detection.
