Google and Levi's Lower Price on New Smart Trucker Jackets
Google and Levi's are releasing new Jacquard-enabled Trucker Jackets at a lower price point, aiming to turn smart clothing into a practical platform rather than a niche luxury.
Google and Levi's are expanding their smart clothing partnership with the release of new Jacquard-enabled Trucker Jackets. Available in Classic and Sherpa styles for both men and women, these garments retail for $198 and $248 respectively, making them significantly more affordable than the original $350 version released in 2017.
The technology works by connecting a small dongle in the jacket's cuff to conductive yarns woven into the fabric. Users swipe, tap, or hover their hand over the cuff to issue commands to their phones, such as skipping music tracks, taking selfies, or activating Google Assistant.
Google positions this release as a shift toward making Jacquard a modular technology platform for multiple brands. With 19 available abilities and international availability in several countries, the tech giant hopes to evolve smart fabrics from a novelty into a mainstream feature found in everyday clothing and accessories.
