Executive producer Karen Dufilho confirms the closure in an email to supporters, stating that the studio is officially closing its doors after creating content for phones, screens, and VR headsets.
The tech giant acknowledges the shutdown and praises the studio's lasting impact on the medium of immersive storytelling. Over the years, the team produces ambitious short films such as 'Son of Jaguar,' 'Sonaria,' and 'Back to The Moon' while pushing the boundaries of what is possible in virtual reality narratives.
Spotlight Stories leaves behind a remarkable legacy, most notably with the short film 'Pearl.' This specific project makes history as the first-ever VR film to receive an Oscar nomination and ultimately wins an Emmy award for its groundbreaking achievements in the entertainment industry.
