Google Cloud Unveils Duet AI and Vertex AI Upgrades at I/O 2023
Google Cloud introduces Duet AI to simplify cloud application development and adds new foundation models to Vertex AI. These tools directly compete with Microsoft's AI integrations by offering code generation, natural language chat, and no-code app building.
Google Cloud unveils Duet AI at Google I/O 2023, a new tool that leverages foundational generative AI models to simplify the process of building and deploying cloud applications. CEO Thomas Kurian highlights this launch during the keynote to showcase the unit's recent profitability and its commitment to bringing secure, rightsized AI advancements directly to enterprise customers.
The Duet AI suite offers comprehensive code assistance that recommends functions, generates code blocks, and flags security risks across multiple programming languages like Python, Java, and SQL. Additionally, it features a natural language chat assistance that answers cloud-related questions and provides architecture best practices, along with a no-code integration for AppSheet that allows users to build Workspace applications using simple descriptions.
These enhancements arrive alongside the introduction of PaLM 2, Google's next-generation language model with improved multilingual and reasoning capabilities, and three new foundation models in Vertex AI. With these releases, Google Cloud directly challenges Microsoft and its numerous OpenAI ChatGPT integrations, such as Copilot, in the competitive race to dominate enterprise cloud AI solutions.
