Understanding proteins requires figuring out their three-dimensional structures, a difficult task that historically takes scientists months or years to complete for a single protein. Hassabis and Jumper solve this decades-old challenge in 2020 by creating AlphaFold, which accurately predicts a protein's shape from its amino acid sequence. Their latest model, AlphaFold 3, expands these capabilities to predict the structures of DNA, RNA, and other molecules that are essential for drug discovery.
