Google Expands $5 AI Plus Plan to Over 40 Nations

Google brings its affordable AI Plus subscription to more than 40 countries for around $5 a month, offering premium Gemini features and cloud storage. The move directly counters OpenAI's recent expansion of its own budget-friendly ChatGPT Go plan.

Google expands its cheaper AI Plus plan to more than 40 countries, including nations like Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, and Indonesia. The subscription costs approximately $5 per month in most of these newly added regions, making premium AI tools much more accessible to users outside of traditional Western markets.

The affordable tier gives subscribers full access to advanced models like Gemini 2.5 Pro alongside creative tools such as Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast. Users also receive enhanced AI capabilities across Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, additional features in NotebookLM, and a generous 200GB of cloud storage space.

This expansion follows closely behind OpenAI's move to bring its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia, showing a fierce rivalry between the two tech giants. By offering these budget tiers, both companies aim to capture paying users in emerging markets where the standard $20 monthly subscription remains too expensive for the average consumer.
