Google Expands AI Detection and Content Verification Tools Across Major Products
Google is rolling out new ways to identify AI-generated and edited media across Search, Chrome, Gemini, and Pixel devices. The expansion builds on their SynthID watermarking technology and C2PA Content Credentials to help users verify the origin of online content.
Google is significantly expanding its tools to help users understand how online content is created and edited. The company is integrating its SynthID digital watermarking technology and C2PA Content Credentials across Search, Gemini, Chrome, Pixel, and Cloud to provide greater transparency as generative media becomes more advanced and accessible.
Since its introduction three years ago, SynthID embeds imperceptible signals into AI-generated content and currently protects over 100 billion images and videos alongside 60,000 years of audio. Additionally, Google is bringing Content Credentials to video on Pixel 8, 9, and 10 phones, allowing the devices to document authentic, unedited camera captures in an era dominated by generative media.
Users are now able to verify content directly through everyday tools, with the Gemini app's SynthID verification already reaching 50 million global uses. This verification capability is expanding to Search and Chrome in the coming weeks, enabling people to simply ask if an image is AI-generated through features like Lens, AI Mode, and Circle to Search to check a file's origin and editing history.
