Google expands free access to Gemini in Chrome for all Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S., moving the feature beyond its previous paid subscription tiers. People with their language set to English can now click the Gemini icon to clarify complex information on any web page, such as asking the AI to adjust a recipe to be gluten free. The assistant also works across multiple open tabs, which helps users compare products or organize travel plans without manually switching between windows.
The tech giant is introducing deeper integrations with popular Google apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps directly within the browser. This connectivity allows users to schedule meetings, pull up location details, or navigate to specific moments in a YouTube video without ever leaving their current page. Additionally, Gemini will soon gain the ability to retrieve previously visited web pages, letting users ask natural questions to find past browsing sessions instead of digging through their standard browser history.
Looking ahead, Google previews upcoming agentic browsing capabilities that will take over tedious online chores on the user's behalf.
