Google Increases G Suite Subscription Prices for the First Time Since 2006

Google raises G Suite Basic and Business plan rates by $1 to $2 per user, citing years of added features like Hangouts Meet and increased storage.

Google announces its first-ever price increase for G Suite subscriptions, raising the monthly cost for Basic and Business editions by $1 and $2 per user in the United States. Pricing adjustments in other regions vary based on local currencies and market conditions, while G Suite Enterprise rates remain completely unchanged. These new prices officially take effect on April 2, impacting monthly subscribers immediately and annual plan users upon their contract renewals.

The company justifies this rate hike by pointing to the numerous features and services added to the platform since its paid launch in 2006. Users now receive added value through video conferencing via Hangouts Meet, team messaging with Hangouts Chat, expanded storage quotas, and various new security and productivity tools.

Despite the added functionality, a 20 percent price increase presents a potential challenge for small businesses operating on tight budgets. The timing of this change carries significant financial weight because G Suite currently serves over 4 million paying businesses worldwide, with the vast majority utilizing the standard monthly or annual plans affected by this update.
