Google Launches Dedicated Gemini Mobile App for Android and iOS
Google releases a native Gemini mobile experience for Android and iOS, replacing the browser-based interface with deep operating system integration and new multimodal features.
Google rolls out a native Gemini mobile experience on Android and integrates the AI directly into the Google app on iOS. This release replaces the previous browser-based interface and gives users a true native application with deep operating system integration. On Android devices, users access Gemini through a dedicated app shortcut, the power button, corner swipes, or voice commands.
The new mobile interface features a contextual overlay panel that supports typing, speaking, and adding photos. Users can snap pictures of real-world objects, like a flat tire, to ask for instructions, or they can generate text and images directly on their phones. The AI also utilizes Google Extensions to pull real-time information from services like Maps, Flights, and YouTube to provide comprehensive answers.
Gemini remains an optional feature that users manually enable, and it still supports classic Google Assistant capabilities like smart home controls, timers, and phone calls. The Android rollout requires a minimum of 4GB of RAM and Android 12 or newer, though tablet support is not available at launch. Meanwhile, iOS users access the new AI features directly through an updated Google app interface.
