Google Launches Gemini 4 Argon, Its Most Powerful AI Model Yet

Google parent company Alphabet launches Gemini 4 Argon, a new AI model built for coding, research, writing, and — above all — cybersecurity. Trained specifically for defensive cyber work through Google's Fairwind Program, Argon can autonomously find, validate, and patch critical software vulnerabilities. It is currently rolling out only to a select group of the company's cyber partners.

Beyond security, Google says its own staff already use Argon for daily work, including debugging and codebase migrations. The model also parses visuals, analyzing long videos and charts, and sustains deep reasoning across complex, long-horizon workflows. Google claims Argon beats OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's Fable and Opus models on a variety of benchmarks, citing the AI benchmarking startup Vals, where Argon currently leads the company's AI model index.

The release adds to an intensifying race among top AI labs, each touting increasingly powerful models while warning of the technology's risks. Google, once considered behind in the AI race, has gained ground with Gemini: in August it announced the Gemini app surpassed a billion monthly users, matching OpenAI's recent milestone of one billion monthly ChatGPT users.
