Google Lens Adds Smart Menu Reading and Instant Text Translation
Google is rolling out new dining and translation filters to Google Lens, allowing users to see popular dishes and split bills directly from their camera. The update also brings stylish, on-the-go text translation to iOS and Android devices.
Google Lens receives new dining and translation filters for iOS and ARCore-compatible Android devices. Users access these features through the Google Assistant, Google Photos, or the main Google search app, with the tool also integrated directly into Pixel phone cameras.
The dining filter highlights the most popular dishes on a menu and displays food photos from the restaurant's Google Maps profile. Additionally, users snap a picture of a restaurant bill to calculate and split the total cost directly within the app.
The translation feature brings a lightweight version of Google Translate's stylish text replacement directly into Lens. This allows users to point their camera at foreign text to see an instant translation that matches the original typeface, and the app reads the translated text aloud.
