Google sends formal notices to developers warning that Play Store apps without valid privacy policies face strict penalties or complete removal. Apps that violate the User Data policy by lacking transparency about their data collection practices find their visibility severely limited or face outright deletion from the platform.
The updated policy mandates that developers display their data policies clearly both in the Play Developer Console and directly within the app itself. Furthermore, any app requesting sensitive user permissions, such as access to the camera, microphone, contacts, or phone, requires a valid and accessible privacy policy to remain compliant.
Alongside privacy transparency, Google requires apps to handle all sensitive information using modern cryptography standards like HTTPS. This aggressive enforcement ultimately cleanses the platform of millions of half-baked applications that put user privacy at significant risk.
