Google Releases Android 13 With Enhanced Material You and Tablet Features
Google officially rolls out Android 13 to Pixel smartphones today, bringing deeper theme customization and improved multitasking. Owners of non-Google handsets must wait until later this year to receive the update.
Google officially releases Android 13 to Pixel devices today, exactly one month after the final beta version. While Pixel users enjoy the update immediately, owners of non-Google smartphones wait until later this year for the rollout. The standout feature of this release is an upgraded Material You interface that automatically applies your wallpaper's colors and themes to third-party apps.
The new operating system significantly improves multitasking, especially on tablets, by introducing a taskbar that lets users drag and drop apps into split-screen mode. Android 13 also enables seamless cross-device copying and pasting of text, images, videos, and URLs. Additionally, users gain the ability to set different languages for individual apps rather than relying on a single system-wide language.
Google introduces several privacy and media enhancements in this latest update. Users now select specific photos and videos to share with apps instead of granting access to their entire media library, and apps require explicit opt-in for notifications. On the media front, the OS adds spatial audio support for compatible headphones, Bluetooth Low Energy Audio, and a dynamic media player that highlights album artwork and features an animated playback bar.
