Google officially shuts down its dedicated Trips mobile app today, though users do not lose their travel data. By signing into a Google account, travelers still access their saved places, notes, and itineraries through Google Search and the revamped Travel page. The company directs users to search for "my trips" to easily retrieve their upcoming and past travel information.
The tech giant shifts focus to integrating these travel tools directly into its dominant Google Maps application. Users access curated guide lists, local events, and popular restaurants by swiping up on the "Explore" tab, while tapping the menu icon reveals saved locations under the "Your Places" section. This consolidation eliminates the need for a separate application while keeping travel planning seamlessly connected to navigation.
Upcoming updates promise even deeper integration for Google's travel ecosystem. Users will soon edit their Trips notes directly within the browser-based Travel section, and Maps will automatically organize upcoming reservations by trip. Crucially, these reservation details will be available offline, removing the need for users to manually download their travel documents before heading out.
