Google Suspends Android Business With Huawei Following US Blacklist
Google cuts off Huawei from future Android OS updates and official Google apps due to a US government ban. Existing device owners will still receive current app and security support.
Google suspends all business transactions with Huawei that involve proprietary hardware and software. This move follows the Trump administration's de facto ban on the Chinese tech giant and severely impacts Huawei's smartphone business outside of China. As a result, Huawei immediately loses access to future Android operating system updates beyond the open-source version.
Upcoming Huawei phones will not feature official Google applications such as the Google Play Store and Gmail. While this restriction does not significantly harm Huawei's domestic sales in China, it presents a massive challenge for the company's international market presence. Huawei relies heavily on these familiar Google apps to compete directly with flagship devices like the P30 Pro.
Existing Huawei device owners receive a slight reprieve, as current Google Play services and app updates will continue to function normally. However, Google strictly prohibits future operating system and security updates from reaching the company. Huawei states that it will continue to provide its own security updates and after-sales services to all existing users despite the ongoing restrictions.
