Google Unveils Advanced Gemini AI Models to Rival ChatGPT
Google reveals a suite of new AI tools at its I/O developer conference, including updated Gemini models that handle massive documents and streamline Gmail tasks.
Google hosts its annual I/O developer conference and unveils a wide range of artificial intelligence products, including new search features, chat capabilities, and cloud hardware. These announcements highlight the tech giant's aggressive push into AI as it defends its market position against rising competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. While many of these tools remain in testing or are limited to developers, they clearly show where Google is directing its investments.
The company introduces significant updates to its Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which now processes up to 1,500 pages of text at once. Google also launches Gemini 1.5 Flash, a lighter and more cost-effective model designed for quick tasks such as captioning images and summarizing conversations. Additionally, improved translation capabilities roll out to developers worldwide in 35 languages.
Inside Gmail, the upgraded Gemini model analyzes attached PDFs and videos to provide helpful summaries. Users can even search their inbox for specific information, such as asking the AI to compare contractor quotes and start dates from different email threads. Google also confirms that Gemini will eventually replace Google Assistant on Android devices.
