Google Unveils Gemini 3.5 Flash and New Spark Agent at I/O
Google introduces a faster, cheaper Gemini 3.5 Flash model and a new agentic AI tool called Gemini Spark to compete with rivals.
Google introduces Gemini 3.5 Flash, a fast and cost-effective AI model that serves as the new default for the Gemini app and AI mode in search globally. The company claims this lightweight model offers top-tier capabilities at a fraction of the cost of comparable frontier models, eliminating the need to trade quality for speed.
Alongside the updated model, Google unveils Gemini Spark, a general-purpose AI agent designed to reason across connected applications and take actions on behalf of users. This agentic AI tool is currently in beta and rolls out next week to trusted testers and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
These announcements come during the annual Google I/O developer conference as the search giant works to maintain its competitive edge against OpenAI and Anthropic. While the heavier Gemini 3.5 Pro model remains in internal testing until next month, the rapid release of Flash and Spark highlights Google's push to integrate autonomous AI tasks into everyday digital life.
