Google hosts its annual hardware event to reveal a fresh lineup of products just ahead of the holiday shopping season. The tech giant introduces the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G smartphones, a revamped Chromecast with Google TV, and the Nest Audio speaker. This strategic release follows recent similar hardware showcases from competitors like Amazon and Apple.
The new Pixel 5 starts at $699 and features wireless charging, splash resistance, and a metal body, while the Pixel 4a 5G starts at $499 with a slightly larger screen than the standard 4a. Both phones utilize mid-range Qualcomm processors to keep costs down and include 5G connectivity primarily for future-proofing rather than immediate necessity. Additionally, both devices boast upgraded camera systems with ultrawide lenses and improved low-light portrait capabilities.
Beyond smartphones, Google expands its home entertainment ecosystem with the new Chromecast that runs the dedicated Google TV software interface. The company also presents the Nest Audio speaker to round out its smart home offerings.
