Google Unveils Pixel 8 and 8 Pro With Major AI and Camera Upgrades
Google introduces the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, featuring refined designs, brighter displays, and a powerful Tensor G3 chip. The new flagship phones significantly extend software support to better compete with Apple.
Google officially unveils the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at its hardware event in New York City, bringing significant upgrades to its flagship smartphone line. The devices feature a familiar camera bar design with more rounded corners and introduce bolder color options like "Bay" blue and "Rose" pink. Most notably, Google extends the lifespan of these phones to directly rival Apple's iPhone.
Under the hood, both models pack the new Tensor G3 chip, which utilizes a faster Cortex-X3 core and handles machine learning models ten times more complex than those on the Pixel 6. The Pixel 8 Pro becomes the first Pixel to offer a 1 TB storage option in the United States. Additionally, the displays see major improvements, with the standard Pixel 8 reaching 2000 nits of peak brightness and the Pro model switching to a flat screen that hits 2400 nits.
The Pixel 8 series also focuses heavily on mobile photography and videography, introducing exclusive "Pro" controls on the larger model to accompany hardware camera improvements. These hardware and software enhancements combine with Google's latest AI-focused features to make the Pixel 8 lineup the company's most promising effort yet.
