Google Unveils Pixel 8 Smartphones and Upgraded Pixel Watch 2
Google shows off its new Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones featuring brighter displays and on-device AI, alongside an upgraded Pixel Watch 2 with advanced health sensors.
Google reveals the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at its Made by Google event, highlighting brighter Actua displays that reach up to 2,400 nits and a starting price of $699 for the standard model. Both smartphones feature a 120Hz refresh rate and run on the new Tensor G3 processor, which powers the company's latest computational photography tools.
The Pixel 8 Pro introduces significant camera upgrades, including a 50-megapixel main wide sensor and an 8x Super Res Zoom feature. Google also brings generative AI directly to the device, allowing users to easily reposition subjects and fill backgrounds with Magic Editor, or combine facial expressions from multiple shots using the Best Take feature.
Alongside the smartphones, Google launches the Pixel Watch 2 to address previous criticisms by adding Fitbit-inspired health tracking capabilities. The upgraded smartwatch now includes a multi-path heart rate monitor, a skin temperature sensor, and a new body-response sensor to provide users with a much more comprehensive picture of their overall health and wellness.
