Google introduces four new Pixel 9 smartphones, a refreshed watch, and new earbuds at its annual hardware event. The tech giant also announces Gemini Live, a new AI assistant that replaces the traditional Google Assistant.
Google unveils four new Pixel 9 smartphones at its annual Made by Google event, expanding its flagship lineup with a standard Pixel 9, a Pro, a Pro XL, and a Pro Fold. The standard model features a 10.5MP front camera alongside 50MP wide and 48MP ultrawide rear cameras. The Pro and Pro XL models add a 48MP telephoto camera, brighter displays, and durable metal and glass constructions, while the Pro Fold utilizes a unique fluid-friction hinge to connect its two screens.
Alongside the new hardware, Google announces Gemini Live as a replacement for the traditional Google Assistant. Similar to Apple Intelligence, this new AI bot integrates directly with smartphone apps to deliver highly customized and personal answers. Buyers of the Pixel 9 Pro receive a free year-long subscription to the Google One AI Plan to take full advantage of these advanced software capabilities.
The tech giant also introduces the Pixel Watch 3, which comes in 41mm and 45mm size options, alongside the new Pixel Buds Pro 2. The updated earbuds feature the new Tensor A1 chip and integrate directly with Gemini AI. Google bills this new audio chip as providing twice as much noise cancellation as the previous generation, ensuring a more immersive listening experience for users.
