Google Unveils Pixel Slate, Its First Chrome OS Tablet

Google unveils the Pixel Slate, a new 2-in-1 tablet that represents the first time the company uses Chrome OS in its own tablet hardware. Senior VP of Hardware Rick Osterloh reveals the device at the Made by Google event, promising the power and productivity of a desktop in a gorgeous tablet form factor.
The Pixel Slate features dual front-facing speakers, a sharp 293 ppi display, and 8MP front and rear cameras. It offers Intel processors ranging from a Celeron to an 8th Gen i7, and includes a fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking. A separately sold backlit folio keyboard with a trackpad attaches via a snap connector and requires no charging or pairing.
Google director of product management Trond Wuellner highlights an updated Chrome OS tailored for the touchscreen, emphasizing a full desktop experience rather than a phone-like interface. The operating system supports splitscreen functionality and includes built-in Google Assistant. The Pixel slate launches later this year with prices starting at $599 and reaching $1,599 for the premium model.
