Google introduces upgraded summary cards to Gmail that help users organize their inbox and take immediate actions. The new cards visually combine information from related emails across categories like Purchases, Events, Bills, and Travel. This update allows users to view important details at a glance without reading through individual messages.
Unlike the previous static snippets, these new summary cards update dynamically in real time as new information arrives. At the bottom of each card, users find blue action buttons to track packages, check in for flights, set bill pay reminders, view concert tickets, or get directions. Google also adds a "Happening soon" section to the inbox that highlights timely summary cards for quick access.
This enhancement reflects a heated competition in the email market following Apple's iOS 18 update, which brings Gmail-like categorization and smart replies to the Apple Mail app. The upgraded Gmail summary cards begin rolling out on October 2, starting with purchase summaries, and will eventually become searchable within the Gmail interface.
