Google's Area 120 Debuts Tables, an Automated Work Tracking Rival to Airtable

Google's in-house incubator launches Tables, a work-tracking tool that uses automated bots to eliminate manual project updates. The service integrates deeply with existing Google Workspace apps to simplify team coordination.

Google’s in-house incubator Area 120 introduces Tables, a new work-tracking tool designed to make project management more efficient through built-in automation. Instead of relying on scattered documents that require manual updates from team members, Tables uses specialized bots to handle repetitive tasks like sending email reminders for overdue items, messaging chat rooms upon new form submissions, and reassigning work queues automatically.

The application caters to a wide variety of professional use cases, including IT operations, customer tracking, recruiting, and product development. By integrating seamlessly with Google’s existing ecosystem, Tables allows users to import data directly from Google Sheets, share information with Google Groups, and assign tasks using Google Contacts. Users can also choose from pre-built templates to get their projects up and running quickly.

Data within Tables is highly flexible and can be displayed in multiple formats such as grid views, kanban boards, maps, or record lists. The platform also includes built-in forms for easy data collection without granting direct table access. Already tested by thousands of active users, Tables notably launches as one of the few Area 120 projects to immediately introduce a paid business model.
