Groq Secures $640 Million to Expand Fast AI Inference Capacity

Groq raises a massive $640 million Series D round to scale its AI inference platform and deploy over 100,000 new chips.

Groq secures a $640 million Series D funding round, bringing the company's valuation to $2.8 billion. BlackRock Private Equity Partners leads the investment, with additional participation from Neuberger Berman, Cisco Investments, and Samsung Catalyst Fund. The substantial financial backing reflects strong market confidence in Groq's vertically integrated AI inference platform.

The company plans to use this capital to deploy more than 100,000 additional LPU units into GroqCloud. CEO Jonathan Ross emphasizes that AI training is already solved, so the current focus shifts to deploying these models for practical, real-world use. Groq intends to make these fast inference resources available to all developers, not just the largest technology corporations.

In addition to hardware expansion, Groq actively hires top talent to increase its overall talent density. The company also welcomes Stuart Pann, a former senior executive at HP and Intel, as its new Chief Operating Officer. This leadership addition and the doubled funding amount position Groq to meet the skyrocketing demand for near-instant generative AI performance.
