Hackers Leak Donor Data from Trucker Protest Fundraising Site
A cyberattack on GiveSendGo exposes tens of thousands of donor records from the Freedom Convoy protest. The leaked information is now being distributed to journalists and researchers.
A major data breach targets GiveSendGo, a Christian crowdfunding site that raises millions of dollars for the Ottawa Freedom Convoy protest. Hackers hijack the website overnight and redirect visitors to a page that condemns the trucker protests before providing a link to a massive file of raw donation data.
Nonprofit leak site Distributed Denial of Secrets confirms it receives 30 megabytes of donor information from the breach. This cache includes self-reported names, email addresses, ZIP codes, and IP addresses of individuals who financially supported the protest, though the organization restricts access to journalists and researchers only.
This cyberattack follows a recent Canadian court order that halts access to the protest funds and a separate security lapse where GiveSendGo leaves over a thousand identity documents exposed on an unsecured cloud server. GiveSendGo currently operates as the primary fundraising platform for the truckers after GoFundMe removes the campaign and freezes millions of dollars.
