Hired Acquires Py to Launch New Candidate Assessment Tools

Career marketplace Hired has acquired Y Combinator-backed Py to introduce app-based skill assessments for tech job applicants. The deal brings 500,000 Py users to the Hired platform alongside a new tiered subscription model.

Online career marketplace Hired acquires Py, a Y Combinator graduate that builds app-based interactive courses for Python and iOS development. This strategic purchase allows Hired to introduce a new feature called Hired Assessments, which directly measures the technical aptitude of job applicants using Py's existing tools. The platform currently boasts 500,000 users who have completed over two million coding assignments.

Alongside the acquisition, Hired launches a tiered subscription model that includes a base-level package called Hired Essential. This entry tier provides companies with enhanced search functionality and equips candidates with tools to prepare thoroughly for their interviews. The integration of Py's technology aims to make the hiring process more efficient and accurate for businesses seeking in-demand tech talent.

The deal originates from a chance encounter at a Y Combinator networking event between Py founder Derek Lo and Hired co-founder Allan Grant. Lo initially built Py in his Yale dorm room out of frustration with theoretical computer science courses, and he now joins Hired as its director of product. Although the financial terms of the acquisition remain undisclosed, the merger unites two companies with a shared vision of simplifying the tech recruitment process.
