Hollywood's Ultraviolet Digital Movie Locker Shuts Down This Summer

The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem confirms it is closing the Ultraviolet cloud locker service on July 31. Users must link their movie collections to participating retailers to keep access to their digital titles.

Ultraviolet, a cloud movie locker once hailed as Hollywood’s best bet to get consumers hooked on digital movies, is shuttering. The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE), the industry consortium tasked with running Ultraviolet, confirms that it will close the service on July 31.

DECE is starting to inform users of the wind-down and advises them not to delete their Ultraviolet movie libraries. Instead, users need to make sure their collections are connected to the service of at least one participating retailer.

Connecting to a retailer allows users to continue accessing their movies and TV shows going forward. DECE plans to publish an FAQ document on Ultraviolet’s website to guide consumers through this necessary transition process.
