HP Acquires Humane AI Platform for $116 Million as AI Pin Shuts Down

HP acquires Humane's artificial intelligence technology and workforce for $116 million, bringing the startup's founders and intellectual property under its corporate umbrella. The deal excludes Humane's flagship AI Pin device, which the company officially shuts down after receiving scathing reviews from critics and tech reviewers.
The former Apple engineers behind Humane join HP to integrate AI capabilities into the company's existing product lineup, including computers, printers, and connected conference rooms. HP plans to use Humane's Cosmos software platform to build an intelligent ecosystem that handles AI requests both locally and in the cloud.
This acquisition marks a sudden end for the AI Pin, a screen-free wearable device that launched in 2024 as a hyped smartphone alternative. Despite raising $230 million from prominent investors, the product fails to impress consumers due to slow performance, unreliable functionality, and poor battery life.
