HTC Launches Budget Exodus 1s Phone That Runs a Full Bitcoin Node

HTC unveils the Exodus 1s, a budget-friendly blockchain smartphone that runs a full Bitcoin node for under $250. This unique capability allows the device to validate and transmit Bitcoin transactions independently without relying on a centralized third-party exchange. HTC describes the phone as a decentralized personal bank that users carry right in their pockets.
Running a full node demands significant computing resources, so HTC recommends keeping the phone plugged into a power adapter and connected to WiFi during operation. Storing the entire Bitcoin ledger requires a separately sold microSD card with at least 400GB of space, as the ledger currently consumes approximately 260GB and grows by about 60GB annually. The phone also includes HTC's Zion wallet software for managing multiple cryptocurrencies and tokens.
Beyond its specialized crypto features, the Exodus 1s offers modest hardware that includes an older Snapdragon 435 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 5.7-inch 720p display. Additional specifications feature a MicroUSB port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual 13-megapixel cameras, and Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. HTC also plans to bring full node support to the original Exodus 1 smartphone in the future.
