HTC Unveils 5G Hub Tablet Hybrid for Sprint Network

HTC unveils the 5G Hub at MWC 2019 as a unique device that combines a mobile hotspot with a 5-inch Android tablet. Created in collaboration with Sprint, the device allows users to connect to upcoming 5G networks even if they lack a 5G-capable phone. Although the screen supports Google Assistant, HTC emphasizes that it serves as a quick-access control panel rather than a dedicated smart display for watching videos.
As a connectivity hub, the device supports up to 20 simultaneous users who can stream 4K video or play games together. It delivers download speeds up to 2.3Gbps via a Snapdragon X50 5G modem and automatically falls back to gigabit LTE in areas without 5G coverage. Sprint plans to light up nine 5G markets in the US this year, making the Hub a practical bridge to next-generation speeds.
The 5-inch touchscreen runs Android Pie and is powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor, while a 7,660mAh battery provides roughly a full day of use depending on the screen status and connected user count. Additional features include 4GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, and a microSD slot that supports cards up to 2TB for offloading photos and videos from mobile phones.
