Huawei Launches Ascend AI Chips to Challenge Global Chipmakers
Huawei commercially releases its Ascend 910 and Ascend 310 artificial intelligence chips, along with the MindSpore computing framework, to compete in the rapidly growing AI hardware market.
Huawei officially brings its Ascend 910 and Ascend 310 artificial intelligence chips to the commercial market to capture a share of the booming AI hardware industry. The company also introduces MindSpore, a dedicated computing framework designed to support the development of AI applications across various platforms.
The Ascend 910 targets datacenter workloads and delivers 256 teraflops of half-precision computing power while consuming only 310 watts. Huawei claims this training chip performs twice as fast as rival accelerators in standard tests, with rotating chair Eric Xu stating it offers more computing power than any other AI processor currently available.
Meanwhile, the Ascend 310 focuses on inference tasks for internet-connected devices like smartphones, smartwatches, and autonomous vehicles. This smaller chip achieves 16 TOPS in integer precision and is already integrated into dozens of industry solutions, including smart shuttle buses and new-energy vehicles produced by leading automakers.
