Huawei Unveils Sleek Mate X 5G Foldable Phone to Rival Samsung
Huawei introduces the Mate X, a new foldable smartphone that combines 5G connectivity with an outward-facing display design. The device aims to compete directly with Samsung by offering a thinner profile and a larger outer screen.
Huawei unveils the Mate X, a new foldable smartphone that combines 5G connectivity with innovative hardware design to compete directly with Apple and Samsung. The device lives at the crossroads of this year's biggest mobile trends, showcasing the fast-growing company's desire to prove its innovation. While early hands-on time remains restricted, the initial glimpses reveal a remarkably slick and well-designed product.
The Mate X stands out with a unique outward-facing display design that measures just 5.4 mm thin when unfolded. When closed, the device reaches 11 mm thick, making it significantly easier to slip into a pocket compared to the 17mm Galaxy Fold. Instead of a small outer screen like its competitor, this smartphone features a large 6.6-inch display on one side and a 6.38-inch screen on the other.
Clever engineering choices allow the camera bar to sit on a foldable chin, which lets photo subjects see themselves on the outward-facing display as a shot is taken. The system includes a Leica lens and features a side-mounted combination fingerprint reader and power button. By pushing the boundaries of both screen technology and 5G integration, Huawei delivers a bold statement about its position in the premium smartphone market.
