Hugging Face Introduces Affordable Open Source Humanoid Robots
Hugging Face unveils two new open source humanoid robots, HopeJR and Reachy Mini, aiming to make robotics accessible and affordable. The full-size HopeJR costs around $3,000 while the desktop Reachy Mini is priced between $250 and $300.
Hugging Face expands its robotics division by introducing two new open source humanoid robots named HopeJR and Reachy Mini. HopeJR is a full-size humanoid featuring 66 degrees of freedom that allows it to walk and move its arms. Reachy Mini serves as a desktop companion that moves its head, talks, listens, and helps developers test artificial intelligence applications.
The company prices the full-size HopeJR at approximately $3,000, making it a highly affordable entry point for advanced humanoid hardware. The smaller Reachy Mini costs between $250 and $300, depending on international tariffs. Hugging Face currently operates an open waitlist and expects to ship the first units of these machines by the end of the year.
This release stems from Hugging Face's recent acquisition of Pollen Robotics and aligns with its broader mission to prevent large corporations from monopolizing the robotics industry with closed systems. By keeping the hardware and software open source, anyone can assemble, modify, and understand these machines. These new robots join the company's existing LeRobot platform and the previously released SO-101 robotic arm in its growing open source robotics ecosystem.
