AI startup Hugging Face raises $235 million in a Series D funding round, earning a $4.5 billion valuation that doubles its worth from May 2022. The investment round features major tech players including Nvidia, Google, Amazon, Salesforce, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, and IBM. This massive financial backing reflects the enormous market appetite for AI development platforms and highlights the startup's rapid growth.

Hugging Face provides a GitHub-like hub for AI models, datasets, and code repositories, along with various development and hosting tools for data scientists. The company generates revenue through paid features like AutoTrain for automating model training, an Inference API for easy model hosting, and Infinity for speeding up data processing in production. Co-founder and CEO Clément Delangue emphasizes that AI represents the most important paradigm shift of the decade, and Hugging Face aims to be the open platform that empowers this transition.

The Brooklyn-based company, originally launched in 2016 as a teenage chatbot app, now claims 10,000 paying customers and over 50,000 organizations using its platform. Its model hub currently hosts more than 1 million repositories, fueled by sustained enterprise interest in artificial intelligence. With surveys showing that a large percentage of business leaders plan to increase their investments in AI tools this year, Hugging Face is strategically positioned to capitalize on this expanding market.
