Humane officially unveils the Ai Pin, a screenless wearable device that attaches magnetically to a wearer's lapel and aims to replace the traditional smartphone. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the squircle-shaped hardware collects data through a camera, microphone, and motion sensors to process information entirely on-board. The startup views this launch as the beginning of integrating artificial intelligence seamlessly into daily life without the distraction of a standard screen.
Instead of a traditional display, the device relies primarily on voice control and features a unique Laser Ink Display that projects text directly onto the user's palm. It communicates audio through a built-in "personic speaker" or paired Bluetooth headphones, and it includes a touchpad and gesture recognition for physical interaction. Furthermore, the pin operates independently of a smartphone thanks to a proprietary wireless network built on top of T-Mobile's infrastructure.
The hardware utilizes a two-piece magnetic design that allows users to hot swap battery boosters for continuous, all-day power. To address privacy concerns, the device includes a "Trust Light" that illuminates to alert others when the camera or microphone is actively recording. U.S. customers can order the Ai Pin starting November 16, though it remains to be seen how the public will react to this type of always-on, camera-equipped wearable technology.
