The company aims to replace regional air freight with high-speed, hydrogen-powered hydrofoil vessels that emit zero CO2 during operation. These ships offer a sustainable alternative for companies looking to reduce their carbon footprint in hard-to-abate sectors.
The startup plans to launch its first vessel into operation in Asia by the first quarter of 2025. This flagship ship boasts a gross payload capacity of 200 tons and reaches a cruising speed of 40 knots thanks to proprietary hydrofoil technology. Boundary Layer believes nearly every Fortune 500 company using air freight in Asia will eventually need this high-speed container transport.
Beyond the initial launch partners, Boundary Layer is in advanced discussions with large corporations across computer manufacturing, medical equipment, consumer electronics, and automotive sectors. CEO Ed Kearney states the company is singularly focused on getting the first vessel ready to load containers. The exact routes for this service will be selected in collaboration with the launch partners.
