IBM and White House Launch Supercomputing Coalition Against Coronavirus

IBM partners with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the U.S. Department of Energy to launch the COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium. This unprecedented coalition provides researchers around the world with massive supercomputing power to help stop the spreading coronavirus pandemic.
The consortium offers immense computing capabilities that allow scientists to run vast numbers of calculations in epidemiology, bioinformatics, and molecular modeling. These complex experiments take years to complete by hand or months on traditional computing platforms, but supercomputers complete them in a fraction of the time to help develop predictive models and potential therapies.
A panel reviews research proposals globally and grants computing access to projects with the most immediate impact. IBM's Summit supercomputer is already actively helping the U.S. Department of Energy identify drug compounds that potentially disable the coronavirus, with additional support coming from major partners like NASA, MIT, and several national laboratories.
