IBM inventors receive a record 9,100 patents in 2018, marking the 26th consecutive year of U.S. patent leadership for the company. Nearly half of these new patents relate directly to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, security, blockchain, and quantum computing.
The massive patent portfolio includes 1,600 AI patents and over 1,400 security patents. Notable inventions feature Project Debater, which is an AI system capable of debating humans, alongside an intelligent IoT system that monitors lake temperature profiles and AI-powered methods designed to combat voice phishing attacks.
