IBM Unveils AI Platform to Accelerate Discovery of New Molecular Materials
IBM introduces MolGX, an AI-driven platform that automatically designs new molecular structures to speed up material discovery. The tool aims to make the exploration of vast chemical spaces up to 100 times faster.
IBM launches the Molecule Generation Experience (MolGX), a cloud-based artificial intelligence platform that automatically invents new molecular structures. This new tool serves as a key part of IBM's strategy to accelerate the discovery of new materials by 10 to 100 times by uncovering molecules based on specific product property targets.
The chemical space is incredibly vast and exceeds the ability of human experts to explore it manually. MolGX solves this problem by using generative models to produce molecules from desired chemical properties, such as solubility in water or heatability, and trains an AI model to predict characteristics within given parameters to synthesize new structures.
A free trial version of MolGX is currently available with a built-in dataset, while a licensed professional version offers advanced features like data uploading, results exporting, and customized modeling. IBM already uses this technology internally, applying it successfully to develop a new photoacid generator for electronics manufacturing and to carry out the inverse design of complex chemical components.
