IBM introduces the Molecule Generation Experience (MolGX), a cloud-based, AI-driven molecular design platform that automatically invents new molecular structures. This new tool serves as a key part of IBM's strategy to accelerate the discovery of new materials by 10 to 100 times by directly uncovering materials from the specific property targets of a given product.
The chemical sciences face a massive challenge because the sheer vastness of chemical space exceeds the ability of human experts to explore even a fraction of it. MolGX overcomes this limitation by leveraging generative models to produce molecules based on desired chemical properties like water solubility and heatability. The platform trains an AI model to predict chemical characteristics within set parameters and synthesizes completely new molecular structures based on that built model.
IBM offers a free trial version of MolGX that relies on a built-in dataset, which the company already uses internally to develop a new photoacid generator for electronics manufacturing. For advanced needs, a professional version is available with a license and includes features like data uploading, results exporting, and customized modeling to further streamline the inverse design of complex substances.
