India Reschedules Historic Chandrayaan-2 Moon Mission to July 22
ISRO officially sets a new launch date for its Chandrayaan-2 mission after resolving a last-minute technical issue. The ambitious flight aims to make India the fourth nation to achieve a soft lunar landing.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) officially reschedules its Chandrayaan-2 mission to Monday, July 22, after a last-minute technical snag halts the initial launch plan. The agency now targets a 2:43 PM IST liftoff for the ambitious flight that carries a lunar orbiter, lander, and rover toward the Moon's South Pole.
This mission marks a significant milestone as the first attempt by any space agency to soft land a rover at the Moon's southern region. Unlike a hard impact descent, this complex soft landing requires the lander to carefully control its path to touch down gently on the lunar surface.
If successful, India becomes only the fourth country to achieve this impressive feat of lunar exploration. A massive GSLV Mk-III rocket carries the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft into orbit, providing a spectacular sight for viewers who tune into the upcoming live stream of the historic event.
