Byju's secures $150 million in funding led by the Qatar Investment Authority, pushing its valuation to $5.75 billion. The startup plans to use the capital to expand its learning app into the U.S., U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

Indian edtech startup Byju's raises $150 million in a new financing round led by the Qatar Investment Authority, with participation from Owl Ventures. This fresh infusion of capital values the company at $5.75 billion, a significant increase from its $4 billion valuation last year. The company intends to use these funds to aggressively expand its learning app into international markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

To support its global growth strategy, Byju's relies on its recent $120 million acquisition of the U.S.-based learning startup Osmo, which targets younger children. Byju's adapts its content for international audiences by tweaking English accents and aligning with local education systems. Currently, the platform helps students of all ages understand complex subjects through engaging, real-life examples, boasting over 35 million registered users and 2.4 million paid subscribers.

This investment from a prominent sovereign wealth fund highlights the strength of India's digital learning sector on a global scale. Byju's generates significant momentum in its home market, reporting around $205 million in revenue last year with plans to surpass $430 million this year. With India holding the world's largest population of young learners, the startup continues to outpace competitors like Unacademy and plans to go public within the next two to three years.
